Bodega Numanthia Termes, S.L. (an estate owned by Dominio Eugren) produces super-premium wines such as Termanthia, Numanthia and Termes.  The company has 40 hectares of vineyards.  The estate was founded in 1998 and is based in Zamora, Spain.  As of February 11, 2008, Bodega Numanthia Termes, S.L. operates as a subsidiary of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.Bodega Numanthia-Termes is the Toro operation of Eguren, which also owns potentially familiar names like Sierra Cantabria and Señorío San Vicente, both in the Rioja appellation.  This is a really opportune time to uncork one of these stars from Castilla-León.  A couple of years back I purchased a few and I anticipated that I would not be sorry at all.  This star example of the Toro D.O. (est. 1987) is an exemplar of Tempranillo’s lovely versatility outside of all those Rioja and Ribera del Duero areas whose products we’ve become familiar with for so long.  While the Termes is 100% tinta de toro, as Tempranillo is commonly referred to in Castilla-León (Cencibel is it’s synonym in other regions), the D.O. generally allows small production percentages of Grenache. At any rate, I recommend this outstanding Toro which represents a very affordable escape into a higher-end Tempranillo experience—wine which would doubtlessly cost several times the price tag should one of the abovementioned appellations be involved.
